About the University

The University of Madras is proudly celebrating its 160th year of establishment as post centenary diamond Jubilee celebration in the year 2017-2018. To commemorate this occasion this international conference, ICORTAC-18 is being organized. The University of Madras has been accredited with “A” rating by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and the University Grants Commission(UGC) has recognised the University as one of the centres for "potential for excellence" in the country.

About the Department

The Department of Analytical Chemistry was established in the year 1960 as a research department under University of Madras. It is one of the unique departments in our country offering M.Sc, M.Phil and Ph.D programs in Analytical Chemistry. The Department is actively involved in research since its inception and has produced over 90 Ph.D scholars and numerous Post-graduates and M.Phil students. Currently the department is awarded with UGC-SAP DRS-I program for thrust area of graphene related research.
The department specializes in the areas of electrochemistry, spectroscopy, sensors, catalysis, corrosion, nano materials and nanobiomaterials.

The sophisticated instruments available in the department include UV-Vis/FTIR  Spectrophotometers, AAS, Electrochemical workstation, Quartz crystal microbalance, Polarograph, GC, HPLC, HPTLC, Corrosion monitoring system, Contact angle and optical microscope with image analyzer besides a Computation laboratory.  The alumni of this department are rendering their services to premier academic institutions and industries across the world. The alumni association is actively involved in organizing seminars and workshop in collaboration with the parent department.

The conference is organized in association with Indian Association of Analytical Scientists (IAAS), Royal Society of Chemistry(RSC) South India Section & Society for Advancement of Chemical Science Education(SACSE)

IAAS will be launched during the conference with its headquarters at Department of Analytical Chemistry, University of Madras.  The society will provide a common platform for Analytical Scientists to exchange ideas, keep themselves abreast of the latest developments in this field, thus promoting growth of analytical sciences in the country.  The association (IAAS) will be involved in organizing and supporting technical lectures/ seminars / workshops and conferences.

About ISAS

Indian Society of Analytical Scientists (ISAS) – Chennai Chapter : ISAS-CC started in 1995 is an active scientific forum with its headquarters at Department of Analytical Chemistry, University of Madras.  The society provides a common platform for Analytical Scientists to exchange ideas, keep themselves abreast of the latest developments in this field, thus promoting growth of analytical sciences in the country.  The Chapter has in the past-organized several technical lectures/ seminars / workshops and conferences.
